Where Are You Heading to Happy Hour?
Breukelen Bier Merchants
Summer concerts, pool parties, even the thought of weekend Slip 'n Slide might make you forget there's a lot of fun to be had during the week. Happy hour should help you remember. Here's a look at some of our favorite places for cheap weekday drinking.
Breukelen Bier Merchants, 182 Grand Street, Brooklyn
Happy hour is traditionally celebrated in bars, taverns, and the occasional lounge. But what about when you find one that takes place in a craft beer store's tasting room? Cue mental fireworks explosion! From 5 to 8 p.m., sample any one of the 16 rotating draft beers for $1 off (full price options range from $5 to $7). If you want to take the party home with you, create your own six pack out of the 500 bottled options chilling in the fridge, or bag a growler.
Overlook Lounge, 225 East 45th Street
From 2 to 6 p.m., sneak up to the deck at this Midtown East classic and enjoy two-for-one drinks specials, with additional weekday specials like Wednesday's $5 Absolut mixers and $5 Sam Adams. If you're not a sports fan, or if you can't bear to watch another Mets loss, the addictive sliders and pomme frites are a great distraction from the TVs.
Bourbon Street Cafe, 40-12 Bell Boulevard, Queens
Two-for-one appetizers at the bar from 4 to 7 p.m. isn't going to get you into beach shape at this Bayside favorite. When you're sipping on $3.50 cocktails and pints, though, you don't really need to go to the beach to relax. Pair your cheap drinks to Cajun food like gumbo, jambalaya, and blackened catfish.
