Eating out gets really expensive really quickly in New York City, which makes it a tough place to subsist if you're scraping by until your next paycheck or trying to save a few bucks. If that's you this week -- perhaps you lost a Super Bowl bet? -- check out our round-up of cheap eats, a list we'll post every Monday.

The Nuyorican at Better Being Underground, 55 Leroy Street, 212-255-9155 This tiny West Village shop is unassumingly located at the bottom of the stairs on a residential block, and it updates its menu daily. For $9.99, grab the Nuyorican, which is a wrap stuffed with spicy sofrito braised chicken, sweet plantains, peppercorn mayo, and avocado. Pro tip: The place is open Monday through Friday from noon until 3 p.m. -- and it delivers. -- Caryn Ganeles

Chavela's, 736 Franklin Avenue, Brooklyn, 718-622-3100 Much of the menu at this tasty Crown Heights Mexican joint is under $10, which means you can compile a platter of tacos, dig into a torta, or fill up on tamales for cheap. But if you really want to save some money, go for lunch, when a handful of platters run for $6.95, or happy hour, when tacos are $2 and drinks are cheap, too. -- Laura Shunk

Eggplant Parmigiana at Mike's Deli, 2344 Arthur Avenue, Bronx, 718-295-5033 Don't let the questionable ginger glow of a Bobby Flay Throwdown taint your decision: this is some damn fine eggplant parmigiana -- and it's $5.50 per square. Tucked into the back of the Arthur Avenue market, Mike's is known for its vibrant red sauce, smoother and sweeter than Dominick's across the street or Mario's next door. Sure, the cheese could use a little more time under the broiler, but the eggplant is thin and fried crisp, the mozzarella exhibiting Ninja Turtle-like stretchiness. It's a worthwhile detour when visiting the historic neighborhood. -- Zachary Feldman

Popsie Cheeseburgers at Snacky, 187 Grand Street, Brooklyn At $2.50 a popsie, these delicious burgers are great for sharing or making a meal out of two or three. Served on a soft, sweet Chinese bakery roll, the salty three-ounce patty coated in gooey cheese hits the spot every time. No ketchup necessary. --Billy Lyons

Yuji Ramen, Bowery Whole Foods, 95 East Houston Street, 212-420-1320 Mazemen wizard Yuji Haraguchi's Whole Foods ramen experiment was so popular it became permanent -- and gave him the springboard to sell from the Gowanus market, too. $9 buys you a bowl of noodles studded with bacon and egg or miso roasted vegetables; if you're starving, it's worth dropping the extra buck for extra noodles. -- Laura Shunk
