Mexico 2000 (367 Broadway, Brooklyn; 718-782-3797), the Williamsburg stalwart for cheap Mexican produce and cecina tostadas, has finally outgrown its shell. On Saturday, the proprietors opened the doors of their new restaurant (369 Broadway), currently also named Mexico 2000. They had been holding on to the location, two doors east, since 2012, waiting on permits and using it as storage space for their overflowing bodega.

Now those who show up at the grocery only to find all eight perches at the tiny tables in the back filled can sit comfortably in booths. The restaurant is full-service, has a liquor license, and expands on the small menu offered by the bodega. There are still the tacos, tortas, and tostadas from next door, but also a number of appetizers, like guacamole ($6.99); elotes with mayonnaise, cotija cheese, and chile powder ($3); or wings. There are large platters of mole with chicken; enfrijoladas, tortillas dipped in beans and rolled around chorizo; and fajitas ($15.99), enchiladas, and flautas, three to an order, showered with cheese with ample rice and beans on the side, dolloped with crema and guacamole.

Josefa Paz, who has run the bodega for years with her family, is pleased. "If you want a margarita, you can get one now," she says, flipping out the menu and pointing to the back. "See, we have a kids menu, too." Her son Adrian will be in charge of the restaurant, which is offering a bottomless mimosa or bloody mary brunch ($17.95) on Saturdays and Sundays.

In addition, Mexico 2000 is renovating the front of the grocery to find a few more square inches for cases of guaje seeds, bins of tomatillos, and bundles of hoja santa — convenient backup stock in case the restaurant runs out.
