With Rhong-Tiam, 154 Orchard Street Gets Another Tenant With a Tortured Past
The tortured and seemingly endless saga of Bia Garden-Chinito-Andy & Bao has finally come to an end, courtesy of another restaurant with a tumultuous history of its own.
Bowery Boogie reports that Rhong-Tiam will be taking over the subterranean space at 154 Orchard Street that most recently housed Andy & Bao.
Rhong-Tiam, of course, enjoyed a very brief tenure in the blighted Kurve space on Second Avenue. Andy Yang, the owner of both restaurants, closed Rhong-Tiam's original LaGuardia Place location at the beginning of 2010 and moved all of his operations to the Kurve space; Kurve became Rhong-Tiam, and then subsequently closed.
According to workers at Rhong-Tiam Express, the place will open this week. For some reason, we're not holding our breath.
