New Day New York Coalition's "Week of Action" culminated at Foley Square last night (Dec. 5). About a thousand fast food workers, union members, low wage employees from other industries and activists gathered in the downtown square to take a stand against income inequality, low pay and poor working conditions. Earlier that day, fast food workers walked out on their jobs in 100 cities throughout the U.S. to call for wages to be raised to $15 an hour and the right to form a union without worry. Roaring chants like "Banks got bailed out. We got sold out" and "Who's city? Our city! Who's streets? Our streets!" echoed like a chorus through the streets of the financial district.
