On Sunday, March 2, Barcade (388 Union Avenue, Brooklyn, 718-302-6464) celebrated ten years of chili cook-offing at its Williamsburg location in an intimate affair with crockpots aplenty and a good many wooden spoons.
Twelve contestants vied for the ultimate prize, to be paid in beer: one couple brought a smoky, dark red pot au beans with duck, pork belly, veal, and cocoa; this packed a heavy punch, though lighter crocks stocked with ground turkey and butternut squash, or a green offering with shredded chicken, white beans, and poblano were easier eating.
Other pots got into the game with beef and bison, bacon and beer, and with proceeds going to the Brooklyn Community Foundation, which gives grants to folks working to make Kings a better county for all, it was a cook-off for a cause.
