This Week in Film: April 25, 2014

Brick Mansions is an uglier English-language remake of the Paris-set dystopian action picture District B13 with the dubious addition of RZA as a drug lord whose subordinates might understand him better if he didn't rely so heavily on metaphors related to his mother's cooking. The movie includes two different scenes of the late Paul Walker crashing a car at high speed. Should the producers have removed these? I don't think so. The guy specialized in car-chase movies. Certainly they might have done a more tasteful job of the chintzy-looking onscreen dedication to Walker that pops up before the end credits.

Opening this week in New York, a surprisingly good documentary about bears, narrated by an avuncular John C. Reilly, a Hithcockian thriller set on a train, and a lip-bitingly tense movie about a wannabe killer who might actually go through with the thing. As usual, click on the movie's title to read the full review.
