Ferris Bueller Parade Re-Enactment

Artists Mina Karimi and Kara Suhey founded Project Bueller to recreate the parade scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Their project took place at the Village Halloween Parade, where costumed lookalikes stood in for Ferris, Sloane Peterson, Cameron Frye, and the "Beer Maid Brigade." Of course, they all sang "Twist and Shout." All in all, a rousing success.

The goal of Project Bueller was to recreate twilight version of this.

Wow, 33 picture of this? Only about one was necessary, and the rest were complete overkill. It wasn't even that great. I'm imagining that the float organizers must be friends with someone at the Village Voice. The Ferris wasn't even that close of a look-a-like.

Hi (coughs). Excuse me, Eric, sorry caught a little cold there, pardon me. Well when YOU coordinate all the logistics to carry something like this out and organize a group of awesome, fun people to help carry out your vision come back here so people can applaud/revile your efforts.

Wow. After seeing this, a float based on a movie that gives a distorted view of Chicago -- make that a white suburbanite's distorted view of Chicago (John Hughes == North Shore), in the parade that made me proudest to grow up in NYC, I really have to wonder what I'll be missing if I never make it back.

No one told me Ferris Bueller was politically incorrect! But seriously, that's totally what the north side looks like. So really, it is correct. When they make a movie about the south side, it will be called "Adventures in Babysitting" which only misrepresents U. of Chicago frat parties and that building with the slanty top.

For those of you grousing about the Ferris Bueller float's authenticity yadda yadda, and how it represents a certain part of Chicago, this event was open to ANYONE who found Mina and Kara's Project Bueller website. I found them on line and didn't know a soul. They welcomed everyone who showed up, which has not been the case in some other similar events I've participated in. Mina and Kara captured the essence of Bueller, which is to LIVE EVERY DAY LIKE YOU MEAN IT. It was inspiring. The looks on the faces of the crowd was totally worth it.
