Willie Mae's Rock Camp for Girls

Willie Mae's Rock Camp for Girls

Named after Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton, one of the first female rock 'n' roll performers, the Willie Mae Rock Camp held its annual summer camp this past week in Brooklyn, drawing in girls ages 8 to 18, who formed bands on the first day of camp, received lessons and instruction on various instruments (drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals, DJ/turntables), rehearsed daily and performed at a showcase at the end of the week at Roulette in Brooklyn.
