Pizza While Walking, Sure. But Pizza While Running?

by Amanda Dingyuan Hou | Tuesday, September 16, 2014

On Saturday, September 13, the fifth-annual NYC Pizza Run kicked off at Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. The ground rules were simple: Run four laps around the park while stopping to eat a slice of pizza after each lap throughout the course. This year, the run attracted 140 pizza lovers who paid a $50 registration fee, with a few completing the run in pizza costumes.

"In New York, pizza is such a quintessential food and everyone loves to run so I figured why not combine running and eating pizza into a same New York City event," says Jason Feirman, founder of the race and editor-in-chief over at I Dream of Pizza, his very own pizza blog.

Feirman says the margherita pizzas came from Pizza by Certé (132 E 56th Street) in Midtown and proceeds went toward juvenile diabetes research.
