The Best Black and Whites in NYC Are at a 112-Year-Old Bakery

by Lea Zora Scruggs and Kevin Kessler | Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Glaser's Bake Shop (1670 1st Avenue) on the Upper East Side has been family-run for three generations and people flock to the bakery for its black and white cookies.
"I'm not going to argue with them," laughs Herbert Glaser, a third-generation baker, when told of the superlative claims that the bakery's black-and-whites are the best in Manhattan. "I think the main reason people consider them the best is because they're fresh," says Glaser. Well into his sixties, Herbert says he has no immediate plans to quit serving tasty treats to his community.
Kevin Kessler gets his hands a little dirty to show you an inside look at this historic shop.
