The Holi Festival, Explained

by Sylvan Solloway | Tuesday, May 6, 2014

"What we're trying to figure out is how we're going to get in the car later." That was one Holi festival-goer on Saturday, May 3, 2014. You might have seen it if you were near the UN: Thousands gathered to smear and throw colored powder all over each other, eat Indian food and dance Bhangra at the 2014 Holi Hai Festival. Holi is a traditional Hindu holiday celebrating colors, spring, love and the triumph of good over evil. Megha Kalia's NYC Bhangra Dance Company hosts the festival and welcomes all New Yorkers to share the traditions each year at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. There is also a festival in Brooklyn -- you can see photos from tha below.
