A SIGN OF THE TIMES
Sometimes, the only thing that can give a room its finishing touch is a one-of-a-kind vintage piece--and we doubt Ikea carries that. Aside from finding that rare trunk or vase at the Brooklyn Flea, the International Vintage Poster Fair is sure to have something to give your apartment a unique look. Just in time for Election Day, this year's theme is "Politically Correct/Politically Incorrect," featuring a number of politically themed retro posters--some scarily au courant, like a 1946 poster that reads: "Warning! Inflation Means Depression. Register to Vote!" (As for politically incorrect posters, check out the one of Condoleezza Rice, dressed in military garb, saying: "I'm fighting for whitey!") Of course, the fair offers more than political propaganda: A slew of art images of Paris, California, and New York will also be on sale, as well as some retro American Airlines images, which will be worth even more once that airline goes under.
