A Town Called Panic

Dir. Stephane Aubier and Vincent Patar (2009). The Alliance kicks off its eclectic month-long Belgian series with this surreal flick, the first stop-motion animated feature to be an official selection at the Cannes Festival. Nothing if not original, it combines the magic inherent in stop motion with a typically Belgian sense of the absurd, and is largely concerned with three toys—Cowboy, Indian and Horse—who come alive and find themselves involved in zany adventures. The animation is superb.
