Almost everyone wishes they could move like an Ailey dancer. Unfortunately, not everybody can be as lithe as the movers who make up the 50-year-old companyor the youths who make up their junior troupe for that matterbut one can try. Celebrate Brooklyn is giving the everyday Joe a chance to learn a few steps from the big boys, right before its group of talented seedlings, Ailey II, takes the stage. Two free classes designed for dance lovers of all ages, shapes, and sizes share some of the Ailey juice, followed by a sampling of select Ailey II repertoire works, which includes pieces by celebrated choreographers from Lar Lubovitch and Judith Jamison to Robert Battle, and, of course, Alvin Ailey. Classes at 5:30 & 6:30, Prospect Park Picnic House, 3rd Street and Prospect Park West; performance at 8, Prospect Park Bandshell, 9th Street and Prospect Park West, Brooklyn
Thu., Aug. 7, 5:30 & 6:30 p.m., 2008
