Famously banned from Late Show With David Letterman for his charming inability to self-censor, Harvey Pekar, the acclaimed cartoonist of the American Splendor series, should offer plenty of his delightful outspokenness when he appears tonight for the final installment of "Comics and the Jewish American Dream" at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. The unabashed curmudgeon, whose new book, The Beats: A Graphic History, is due out in March, will discuss the myriad ways his Jewish experience has shaped his work and career. Danny Fingeroth, author of Disguised as Clark Kent: Jews, Comics, and the Creation of the Superhero, moderates.
