When it comes to dudes from Animal Collective releasing solo albums, Noah “Panda Bear” Lennox tends to soak up most of the attention. Late last year, though, Dave Portner quietly released his first disc as Avey Tare, and now he’s hitting the road for his first run of dates since then. Not unlike Panda Bear’s recent Tomboy, Down There comes caked in reverb and echo. It’s a headphone experience waiting to happen. But Avey Tare also seems more interested in rhythm than his bandmate does: In “Oliver Twist,” he grounds all the floaty, dreamy stuff with his version of a sharp-angled dubstep beat.
