APPETITE FOR SELF-DEPRECATION
The East Village's Calliope hosts its second book-club dinner, and Gary Shteyngart is on the menu. Dry-aged with an irrepressible masochism, a hint of earthiness, and generous portions of humor, he comes paired with a four-course meal of smoked sable toast, borscht, crispy pork belly, and blackberry pavlova. Prior to the meal, Shteyngart reads from his new memoir, Little Failure, and after fielding questions from the guests, he guides them on what seems intended to be a gustatory trip down memory lane, back to the food of his childhood in Leningrad.
