After a bleach job and a grimier gothier sound, Toronto ex-opera performer Katie Stelmanis formed Austra with two identical twins as her backup singers. Her songs are minimal, mystical affairs of synth-drenched dread, offset by a dramatic, classically-trained voice that could curdle blood. Her new singles "Lose It" and "The Beat and the Pulse" were the de facto jams of this year's SXSW, thanks to her talent for crafting memorable pop hooks infused with trauma. Opening is Toronto's TRUST, who mine the aesthetics of Cold Cave to create witch rock out of curioso keyboard samples. Bring your cape! With Trust and Silver Swans.
