Sure, you could go to one of the many traditional productions of The Nutcracker that always take place this time of year. But for a truly downtown tradition, Angela Harriell’s Nutcracker: Rated R, which returns for its eighth year, is probably a lot more fun. Here, little Clara, who is now a teenager, travels in her uncle’s time machine back to the seedy underground club scene of early ’80s New York, where she finds sex, drugs, and the blow fairies. Tchaikovsky never saw this coming.
