Bare Mutants+Outer Minds
Perpetually in a state of collapsing and making up, the music of Bare Mutants (which features members of Ponys, The 1900s, and Mannequin Men) can sometimes feel like a contradiction. Echoed, disembodied vocals sit comfortably alongside modulated electric strum and phaser-gun keyboards. The Chicago quintet’s sound feels thoroughly hollowed out, yet resolutely alive in a way that’s beyond what artists of a more agitated nature are able to achieve.
