She’s got a number-one album and guest spots with Jay-Z and Rick Ross to her name, but somehow it feels like Chrisette Michele hasn’t quite yet defined herself. Last year, the New York native released her third studio disc, Let Freedom Reign, a more streetwise affair than her jazzed-up 2007 debut. (She tries rapping, to somewhat unfortunate results.) But then, just a few months ago, Michele joined Kem, the adult-soul smoothie, for a breathy new version of his tune “If It’s Love.” The implication? It’s her career; she’ll sigh if she wants to. Catch her tonight as she headlines 98.7 Kiss FM’s holiday concert.
