BEEN HERE BEFORE
In 1970, a frustrated 25-year-old British folk singer Vashti Bunyan quit the music business after her album Just Another Diamond Day failed to receive much attention, and she spent the next 30 years raising three children. Thats when Devendra Banhart, poster boy of the burgeoning freak-folk movement, came calling, dragging Ms. Bunyan from obscurity when he convinced her to sing on his album. In 2005, she released Diamond Days follow-up, Lookaftering. Tonight, director Kieran Evanss feature documentary about the folk icons re-emergence, Vashti Bunyan: From Here to Before, screens at the 92nd Street Ys Tribeca outpost with a performance from Bunyan and Matteah Baim.
