For student filmmakers everywhere, the first question that needs answering is: How did all the others do it? Find out this weekend when the First Time Fest brings together major directors to talk about their feature film debuts. You’ll see Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides (with Coppola in person), Todd Solondz’s Welcome to the Dollhouse (with Solondz in person), and Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Jack Goes Boating (with both Hoffman and star Amy Adams in person), among others. A series of panels titled “How They Did It” sheds light on everything from the ins and outs of marketing to choosing the right music to tips for wearing multiple hats on set. The festival will also screen new international films, and one will be awarded
major film distribution. Starts today, through March 4. For more information on venues, film panels, passes, and screenings, call 646-580-1383 or go to firsttimefest.squarespace.com.
Mondays, Thursdays-Sundays, 10 a.m. Starts: March 4. Continues through March 4, 2013
