BELIEVE THE HYPE
A year away from completing their first decade of releasing music, Hyperdub, the London dubstep and electronic label that has put out tunes from artists such as Darkstar, Burial, Laurel Halo, and the Bug, is touring the country with a roster of artists who will all move your brain—and, of course, your feet—in a different direction. At Hyperdub Label Night, label founder and early dubstep experimentalist Kode9 headlines (Pregame idea: Take a sip every time you come across something insightful in Sonic Warfare, his MIT-published account of the topic). But the openers are just as promising: DJ Spinn and DJ Rashad play frenetic, high-BPM footworks, Ikonika plays thick, hooky electro (in the ’80s definition of the term), and local dude Brenmar chops r&b into all of the above.
