An experimental intelligence resides in the upper headspace of this 10-piece salsa clasica group hailing from (of all places) Richmond, Virginia. Formed by a pair of displaced Puerto Ricans, Bio Ritmo modulates the clave with retrofuturist keys, unexpected horn interventions, and the occasional Middle Eastern detour on their slinky new La Verdad. They resemble a more experienced and nuanced Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra, the group who (as it turns out) will be opening for them tonight.
