The brilliant and eccentric Sun City Girls closed up shop with the death of drummer Charles Gocher in 1997. Surviving members Alan and Richard Bishop still perform, however, sometimes together (as the Brothers Unconnected), sometimes apart. Alan Bishop’s solo alter ego, Alvarius B, makes a rare local sighting here just in time to test the limits of Mayor Bloomberg and Microsoft’s brand-new Domain Awareness System. Bishop specializes in Italian-film music. The highlight of 2005’s Blood Operatives of the Barium Sunset was a particularly mordant version of Fabio Frizzi’s theme to Andy Warhol’s Dracula. Last year’s Baroque Primitiva foregrounds the wordless vocal pleasures of blood symphonist Ennio Morricone. Bishop also slips easily into a hyper-conspiratorial persona. As one song begins: “My next-door neighbor dusted off the chemical weapons in his garage. . . .”
