Demonstrating that hippies can multitask, too, the adventurous psych-folk futurists of Akron/Family have started a new record label, Family Tree, and tonight at 285 Kent, they wrap a U.S. tour with their first signees, Bad Weather California. (Those dudes actually hail from Denver, but what else would you expect from their Brooklyn-based benefactors?) Last year’s elaborately titled Akron/Family album, S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, showed off a freshly melodic streak, but it’s anyone’s guess what they’ve been up to since then. Also on the bill: former Ponytail guitarist Dustin Wong, whose second solo disc lands next month.
