BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER
Like most fusion genres, moombahton works better as a bridge than an island: As a means for DJs to combine or segue between hip-hop, EDM, and tropical-bass records, it’s just about unrivaled. But when increasingly soulless producers and fans (see: reddit.com/r/moombahton) begin turning the mid-tempo, dembow-heavy sound around into a niche-y end in itself, records go stale before the bass even drops. Fortunately, tonight’s Brooklyn edition of D.C. staple Moombahton Massive features headlining artists who play everything from hard techno to Elvis Crespo — Nadastrom, who basically invented the genre, and Sabo, who plays it better than just about everyone else. With Schlachthofbronx, a rising duo that is, conspicuously, not from the Bronx.
