BROOKLYN (MODERN) LOVE
First-time feature director Cruz Angeles received outstanding reviews for his coming-of-age, post-9/11 drama Don't Let Me Drown when it screened at this year's Sundance Film Festival. See its New York premiere when it opens the first annual BAMcinemaFEST tonight. With great sensitivity, Angeles tells the story of two high school students (played by E.J. Bonilla and Gleendilys Inoa) trying to cope with the loss of family members killed at the World Trade Center. The two build a close relationship, albeit rocky at first, as they find comfort in each other. The Brooklyn Blowout afterparty includes drinks (from Brooklyn Brewery), music, and dancing. Having fun Brooklyn-style is "mandatory."
