BRUSH WITH MYSTERY
No less a talent than the late master fantasy artist Frank Frazetta called Jeffrey Catherine Jones “our greatest living painter.” As part of the ’70s art collective known as The Studio, Jones brought lush romanticism to the comics page; her paintings haunt the covers of countless fantasy paperbacks. Documentarian Maria Paz Cabardo explores Jones’s art and enigmatic life — marked by gender transition and the tension between commercial art and personal expression — in Better Things: The Life and Choices of Jeffrey Catherine Jones, screening tonight at the Society of Illustrators followed by the opening for the exhibition of Jones’s work that runs through May 3.
Saturdays, noon; Fri., March 21, 6:30 p.m.; Tuesdays-Fridays, 10 a.m. Starts: March 8. Continues through May 3, 2014
