Dir. Youssef Chahine (1958). This was the breakthrough film of the late great Egyptian director. Chahine plays the leading role (excellently) himself of a simple-minded news vendor in Cairo's busy main railway station, hopelessly in love with a flirtatious woman. It's a fascinating tragic-comic-melodrama.
