In Henrik Ibsen’s 1892 drama The Master Builder, Halvard Solness is an architect who believes he has a God-given power to will professional success to come to him. His new project is to build a dream home for his wife, who is perpetually grieving the death of their twins in a fire. But his blueprints begin to change when he is reunited with the vivacious young Hilde Wangel, whom he first met when she was a child and promised to build her a castle one day. Ibsen’s play stars John Turturro in the title role and Wrenn Schmidt of Boardwalk Empire as his pretty muse.
