'Celebrate Brooklyn Presents Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club+Omara Portuondo+Nelida Tirado'
The dusky-voiced songbird of pre-revolutionary Cuba's emotionally ravishing "feeling" sound was retrofitted memorably into the likewise revolutionary Buena Vista Social Club in 1996. Portuondo, who turns 80 later this year, still sounds bigger than life, as does the BVSC's current 13-member lineup, which features trumpeter Guajiro Mirabal and former Los Zafiros guitarist Manuel Galbán. Flamenco dancer Nelida Tirado got her start in New York's Ballet Hispanico and refined her critically lauded moves in Spain.
