Chris Dingman Quintet
The vibraphone has a built-in ethereality, but Dingman’s approach to the instrument lets dreaminess have its say while still setting aside some room for percussive oomph. Better, he writes his way in and out of shifting scenarios that account for gauzy excursions and hammer-down romps. This band, with Loren Stillman’s alto out front, can captivate.
