Beginning with last week's "Racist Show-and-Tell," in which the members of rap group Das Racist judged a slideshow of racialized commercials compiled by writers from Ego Trip Magazine, the Asian American Writers' Workshop is spending March hosting a series of panels ("part symposium, part late-night talk show, part YouTube nostalgia-fest") that attempts to provide what they're calling "an alternative racial history of the 1990s." Tonight, at Why Can't We All Just Get Along?, a murderer's row of speakers (including Elizabeth Mendez Berry, Jeff Chang, and Jay Smooth) meet to discuss everything from Anita Hill to "black kitsch" and the television show Family Matters.
