Start the long, hot summer with a really cool sport. Today through Sunday, more than 250 skaters will compete in the Ice Skating Institute's 23rd annual Team Figure Skating Competition. Dedicated to providing leadership, education, and services to the ice-skating industry—and we bet you didn't even know that figure skating was an industry—the ISI focuses on all kinds of skating from recreational to hockey. The competition is at the Sky Rink at Pier 61, and it's free to the public. For the most smiles, the three- to five-year-olds skate on Saturday afternoon. Events are scheduled Friday 5 to 7, Saturday 10 to 6, and Sunday 11 to 6.
Fri., June 5, 5 p.m.; Sat., June 6, 10 a.m.; Sun., June 7, 11 a.m., 2009
