Despite label attempts to airbrush Yelawolf into a country star fit for radio, the Alabama rapper with a backstory straight out of Winter’s Bone remains as much of an enigma as ever. Radioactive, his Interscope/Shady Record debut, had some bangers—begin with “Hard White (Up in the Club)” and the Gangsta Boo–featuring “Throw It Up”—but Trunk Muzik 0-60 remains his best, a one-of-a-kind tour through woods where “Billy Crystal” is code for powder and confused crackers bump Beanie Siegel in trucks with Dixie window covers. His venue tonight, a bowling alley in Williamsburg, is a little more chic, but expect a great performance nonetheless. Rittz, another country rapper, opens.
