CRACKING SOME NUTS
We wonder what E.T.A. Hoffmann would think of his 117-year-old tale, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King," being juiced up with sex and drugs. Nutcracker Rated R, set in the East Village, tells the story of Clara, a wild teen who rebels against her bourgeois upbringing and gets transported by her uncle, Drosselmeyer, back to the '80s, where she uncovers her family's dark secrets locked away in New York's seedy underground. Nutcracker Rated R does have hints of Tchaikovsky's original score, but that's as traditional as it gets—expect to see dildo fights, rock stars, Russian stripteases, and who knows what else.
