Modest Mouse, your kid brothers are at the door—and they're not well. Straight outta Staten (Island), onetime Weezer cover band Cymbals Eat Guitars have expanded their sonic slush into post-punk, psych-pop, and whichever genre will soon be named after singer/guitarist Joseph D'Agostino's defibrillated, tweaked-out solos. (Post-wave-spazcore? Yeah, you heard it here first.) While the early-twenties troupe does share their virile yowls with Isaac Brock and the meandering riffs with Flaming Lips, the discordant, encompassing world of their debut Why There Are Mountains is a joyously new ride. Sweat off your doubts at teeny Cake Shop tonight. With Teletextile and Bedtime.
