In the award-winning Danish film The Celebration (1998), family dysfunction rules when a young man accuses his father of incest at his 60th birthday party. Polish theater company TR Warszawa now brings this challenging drama to the stage with Festen (The Celebration).
Directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna, the work, which debuted in Warsaw in 2001, was called by critic Tom Sellar "one of Jarzyna's best" and "nothing less than a Hamlet for the 21st century." This marks the final international-theater performance to be staged at St. Ann's at its current location. Next season, they will move to 29 Jay Street in DUMBO to make way for—what else?—condos.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 8 p.m.; Sun., April 29, 2 p.m. Starts: April 20. Continues through April 29, 2012
