The trumpeter leads an electric sextet to accompany filmmaker Bill Morrison's Spark of Being, a retelling of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Brought to life in Stanford's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics, Douglas's strong themes get an improvisatory working over as well as an electronic filigree (courtesy of DJ Olive). Indeed, there's so much meat on the bones of this monster that Douglas is devoting a trio of albums to exploring all its ramifications.
