Dave Holland Quintet
Critic Kevin Whitehead once called 'em "the jitters"--the end result of those rhythmic intersections that composer Holland uses to set things in motion. They give the veteran bassist's music a charged effect, balancing friction with poise and ultimately leading to some all-together-now polyphony. This fivesome, which features tenor sax wonder Chris Potter, has been together awhile. Their spin on the jitters is sublime indeed.
