Deerhoof+Wildbirds & Peacedrums
With 10 albums to their name, San Francisco's Deerhoof have established themselves as one of art-rock's most reliable bands, though their pixyish vocals and squonking guitar polyrhythms have been becoming somewhat predictable. Openers Wildbirds & Peacedrums, on the other hand, have released two albums that are markedly different but equally captivating. The Swedish husband-and-wife team's 2007 album Heartcore was an indie-rock, tribally rhythmic, soul-infused party record, while their latest, The Snake, employs those same elements but in a darker, more subdued way. The fact that they're only a duo makes them more captivating live.
