On his latest release, Heavy Ghost, graphic-design MFA candidate DM Stith layered music the way some designers layer InDesign files: densely. Each song is made of thick, looping collages of strings, clanking metal, and the sort of female vocal "oooohs" that made '50s soundtrack music unique, all of which Stith skates over, vocally, with his quivering alto. Equal parts Antony and jammy one-man-band Keller Williams, Stith makes unique music while being utterly self-reliant and resourcefuljust as a good designer should be.
