Double Suicide: Japanese Summer

(Nagisa Oshima, 1967). Oshima treats the traditional subject of double suicide with a twist—his leads are nothing like the usual star-crossed lovers in Japanese literature and cinema. The two modern would-be lovers are neurotic loners who become involved in a hijacking, as victims, in this complex examination of the death impulse in Japanese society.
