Rethinking the concept of war ballads, pianist Sarah Cahill invited a few of her colleagues to write reactive new compositions about the war in Iraq. That some of those colleagues happen to be Yoko Ono and Meredith Monk make the invitation even more intriguing. The resulting concert, Notes on the War: The Piano Protests, features nine short piano works that Cahill hopes will live as event-driven art long after this war finally ends, in the fashion of Picasso's Guernica. With Soundcheck's John Schaefer hosting, the recital has got something for high-brow music fans, peaceniks, and WNYC junkies (wait, is there any difference?).
