EAT IT UP
In the 1960s, Fluxus shook the art world by defying convention with radical performance pieces. Today, artist Alison Knowles will channel her Fluxus know-how by preparing a comically gigantic salad as part of the High Line’s Earth Day Celebration. Watch her chop, slice, and toss together this healthy snack of Herculean proportions in collaboration with artist Jessica Higgins and musician Joshua Selman, re-creating the iconic piece titled Make a Salad, originally performed in 1962. As this is a participatory event, audience members will be encouraged to contribute to the performance by digging into the greens themselves (starting at 12:15). Just make sure not to slip on a lettuce leaf on your way out.
