EAT, PRAY, LAUGH
As comedian Michael Showalter told The Rumpus about his new memoir, Mr. Funnypants: "I am writing an important' memoir about not being able to write an important memoir. It winds up being kind of a novel-length comedic essay on insecurity and procrastination." Indeed, the book begins with sections such as "About the Author," "Aboot the Author (for Canadian Edition)," and "About Bea Arthur," as well as several pages of acknowledgments ("I acknowledge that I am writing a book"), prefaces, and post-prefaces before finally getting to the real dirt in a chapter titled, "Taking Ecstasy and Peeing on Myself." Tonight, you can raise a glass to the author, a former member of the sketch troupe the State and STELLA, at this "important" book-launch party with comedians Eugene Mirman, Reggie Watts, and Kumail Nanjiani.
