ENJOY THE SILENCE
Most of us merely fantasize about being able to take off for a gorgeous land far from our many pinging devices. But for their latest residency, the adventurous duo Sonya Robbins and Layla Childs did just that, traveling to Christchurch, New Zealand, armed with video cameras and John Mulgan’s novel Man Alone. Now, at Art in General, you can go along for the ride in robbinschilds’ I came here on my own, a four-channel installation on a large bisected screen that shows the women traversing mountainsides and riverbanks, all done with their impeccable eye for capturing the richest scenery. With Robbins on one side of the screen and Childs on the other, the work reflects on what it means to be a brave woman alone in this great big world.
Mondays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Starts: Nov. 24. Continues through Dec. 15, 2012
